Procedure

Phase A - Add Phase A with mixing to main vessel and mix at low speed and begin heating to 85-90ºC. Phase B - At 60-65ºC, begin adding Phase B to Phase A slowly allowing the polymer to dissolve. At 85ºC to 90ºC, hold the temperature and add any remaining Coast PVA-24 to the vessel and incorporate into the solution slowly. Once the addition is completed hold the temperature for at least 10 minutes then discontinue heat. Phase C - Cool to 70-75ºC. Add Phase C in formula order to Phase AB. The batch will turn opaque. Phase D - Cool the batch to 40-45ºC. Add Phase D followed by Phase E. Cool the batch to 25-30ºC, and transfer to a suitable vessel.

Properties

pH—5.5 to 6.0; Viscosity—spindle 6 @ 6.0 rpm = 70,000 to 100,000 cst.
